AffirmUs ("we," "our," or "the app") is a couples affirmation and connection app. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information when you use AffirmUs.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
- Account information: Name, email address, and authentication credentials (via email/password, Apple Sign-In, or Google Sign-In)
- Profile information: Display name, love language preferences, and birthday (if provided)
- Partner relationship data: Partnership status, partner invite codes, and linked partner identity
- Messages: Text messages, nudges, questions, affirmations, and custom messages sent through the Connect feature between linked partners
- Journal entries: Personal journal text, mood selections, and sharing preferences
- Shared affirmations: Affirmation text shared between partners
- Subscription and purchase data: Subscription tier, purchase receipts, and entitlement status
- Push notification tokens: Device tokens used to deliver notifications
- Device information: Device platform (iOS or Android) for notification delivery
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the app, including partner linking, messaging, journal, and affirmation features
- Authenticate your identity and maintain your account
- Deliver push notifications about partner activity and daily affirmation reminders
- Process subscription purchases and manage entitlements
- Improve the app and fix bugs
We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell your personal data.
3. How We Share Your Information
Your data is shared only in these limited circumstances:
- With your linked partner: Only data you explicitly choose to share — shared journal entries, shared affirmations, and Connect messages. Private journal entries are never shared unless you take the explicit action to share them.
- Third-party services: We use the following services to operate the app:
- Supabase (database, authentication, real-time messaging) — stores your account and app data
- RevenueCat (subscription management) — processes subscription purchases and manages entitlements
- Apple Sign-In / Google Sign-In (authentication) — used only for account authentication if you choose these sign-in methods
- Expo Push Notification Service (notifications) — delivers push notifications to your device
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Supabase servers located in the United States (West US — Oregon region). All data is transmitted over HTTPS encryption. Database access is protected by Row Level Security policies that ensure you can only access your own data and data explicitly shared by your linked partner.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Your profile, messages, journal entries, shared affirmations, partner invites, entitlements, and push tokens are permanently deleted
- Any active partnerships are dissolved
- This deletion is irreversible
If you unlink from a partner, messages and shared content from the partnership remain in the database but are no longer accessible to either party through the app.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data: View your profile, messages, journal entries, and shared affirmations within the app
- Delete your account: Permanently delete all your data through Settings > Delete Account. You will be asked to type "DELETE" to confirm. This action is irreversible.
- Control sharing: Choose which journal entries to share with your partner. Private entries are never shared automatically.
- Manage notifications: Enable or disable push notifications and daily reminders through the app's Settings or your device's notification settings
- Block a partner: Block a linked partner to prevent further communication
7. California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- Right to know: You may request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to delete: You may request deletion of your personal information. Use the Delete Account feature in the app or contact us at the email below.
- Right to opt out of sale: We do not sell personal information.
- Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.
8. Children's Privacy
AffirmUs is not intended for children under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 17, we will delete it promptly.
9. Subscriptions
AffirmUs offers optional premium subscriptions:
- Monthly plan at $4.99/month
- Annual plan at $29.99/year
Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your device's Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
